“Love,” like “Happiness” can be hard to explain.
But the great writer Ernest Hemingway came very close to expressing the essence of love.
“When you love you wish to do things for. You wish to sacrifice for. You wish to serve.“ A Farewell to Arms
To that, I would add that you wish to do for and to give … without expecting anything in return.
Rudy Rasmus Talks About How to Love Everyone
Let not your love for another become a transaction. When you give someone a smile, a hug, kind words, a listening ear, an understanding shoulder, money, support — give them because you truly want to. My father often quoted the Urdu words “Neki kar, darya mein dal.” It simply means “Do a good deed, and then toss it into the river.” I have tried to follow that in my life, because I believe that expectations can rob love of its purity and beauty.
Let us give our love for free, as often as we can, as much as we can.
Let us sometimes pause to self-correct on the beautiful path of love.
Let us love because we feel love, not because we expect or need love.
